Ukraine's cities are swathed in rich history and culture and Dnipropetrovsk is no exception. Built upon the shores of the Dnieper River, travelers head to this city time and again to relax on the beaches and become immersed in the museums and theaters. Although the street names are in Ukrainian or Russian, you may notice they look familiar. Many are named after the Marxist heroes of the Soviet era, such as the main road through downtown Dnipropetrovsk called Prospekt Karla Marksa, or Karl Marx Ave. Stroll down this central boulevard to visit these three popular places.

You know you're approaching the History Museum when you notice a yard covered with ancient stone sculptures. This collection of "baba" statues, meaning "old woman" in Turkish, is thought to have been created by nomadic iron-age people, like the Scythians. They have been brought from all over Ukraine to welcome guests to the museum. Much more is presented inside, including a whole room devoted to those who lost their lives during the tumultuous Soviet era. The pyramid of lost ones is made from photos of faces, with each one lit by a candle. An impressive collection of old military remnants are on display behind the museum, including a World War II diorama.

Not far from the History Museum is another popular attraction. Shevchenko Park is one of many Ukrainian locations named in honor of the iconic poet Taras Shevchenko. This park is the city's largest and a frequent stop for visitors. Loving couples, young and old, are often seen strolling throughout the lush foliage and resting upon the many benches. Make sure to take a look from the observation platform to admire the beauty of the Dnieper River. You can also visit the awe-inspiring Preobrazshenskiy Cathedral and Potemkin's Palace, both designed by Prince Potemkin himself.

The most popular tourist attraction in Dnipropetrovsk may be Monastery Island. Walk across the bridge from Shevchenko Park to explore this quiet isle. The old Byzantine monastery from which the island got its name is no longer, but you can visit the quaint St. Nikolay Church. Other features include the Shevchenko monument, an amusement park with sky-high rides to enjoy views of the city, and the beautiful beaches.

Be sure to include a stop in Dnipropetrovsk on your trip to Ukraine. You can immerse yourself in the culture, learn about the history, and enjoy the scenery, which includes thousands of beautiful Ukrainian women! These top 3 attractions are a just a small sample of what Dnipropetrovsk is all about.
